Newsom vetoes cannabis cafe bill Bad news for Californians hoping to enjoy a joint with their coffee: a bill that would have allowed cannabis cafés has been vetoed by Gov. Gavin Newsom.Assembly Bill 374 was written to allow Amsterdam-style lounges where cannabis products could be sold alongside food and drinks. While some similar businesses currently exist, they do so through a legal loophole, usually by having a technically separate business "deliver" food and drink products to consumption lounge customers. In a message announcing his veto, Newsom said he "appreciate[s] the author's intent to provide cannabis retailers with increased business opportunities and an avenue to attract new customers.""However, I am concerned this bill could undermine California's long-standing smoke-freeworkplace protections," he wrote. "Protecting the health and safety of workers is paramount. Ridder solidifies job security and brightens Falcons’ hopes for long-awaited winning season ATLANTA (AP) — Arthur Smith’s response to his first postgame question regarding Desmond Ridder was quick and strong.“Pretty damn good,” the Atlanta Falcons’ coach said Sunday of his quarterback’s performance in the win over Houston.Smith could have added Ridder’s showing also was important for the quarterback and the team.Ridder’s play lifted the performance of his teammates, including tight end Kyle Pitts and wide receiver Drake London, casting a more optimistic outlook on the season. The 21-19 win over the Texans doesn’t place the Falcons (3-2) in conversations with San Francisco, Philadelphia or Detroit as the most impressive teams in the NFC.
