UAW strike heads into third week

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 06:17:12 GMT

WENTZVILLE, Mo. – Approximately 25,000 autoworkers are heading into their third week on strike. More than 4,000 of those workers are at the Wentzville General Motors Assembly.“I haven’t been working at GM too long, and I didn’t know what to expect with the strike, and I didn’t think it would last this long," Daniel Klen saidKlen works on the frame line inside the plant. While he’s worked there more than a year, he’s still considered a temporary employee. Workers like Klen are one of the reasons the United Auto Workers are pushing back against the Big Three.“I’ve been a temp over a year and I think what they’re trying to do is make it to where it’s a 90-day thing, which seems a lot more reasonable,” Klen said. “…You never know when you’re going to get converted, and to know, after 90 days, seems reasonable and to know that would be a really good thought.” Close Thanks for signing up! It’s also the first time that MacKinnon and Drouin have played together since the 2016 World Cup of Hockey when they suited up for “Team North America,” a collection of the best young players from Canada and the United States. The Avs’ top trio created a Grade-A scoring chance in the first minute of each of the first two periods. Both times it was MacKinnon feeding Drouin, his former junior teammate in Halifax, near the front of the net.Drouin in particular had a strong offensive night, th...

ANAHEIM — After the A’s set franchise records for futility this season, there was one record broken and another milestone reached Sunday that may help them head into the winter on a positive note, despite their season-ending 7-3 loss to the Angels.Outfielder Esteury Ruiz broke Kenny Lofton’s American League single-season record by a rookie with his 67th stolen base. Then A’s journeyman outfielder Brent Rooker, the team’s lone All-Star this season, smashed his career-best 30th home run of the year. The A’s finished their funereal season at 50-112 after going 60-102 last year, posting the franchise’s worst record since the 1916 Philadelphia A’s went 36-117.  With reviled owner John Fisher’s Vegas relocation dreams hanging over the Coliseum, the A’s have endured their first back-to-back 100-loss seasons in Oakland and the franchise’s first since 1964-65 in Kansas City. But the two feel-good moments Sunday helped take the sting out of another loss. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City shook off a subpar performance during which they blew a 17-point lead, but held on to defeat the New York Jets 23-20 on Sunday night.Mahomes was intercepted twice and struggled to get much going after a quick start with pop superstar Taylor Swift watching Travis Kelce and the Chiefs for the second straight game, this time from a suite at MetLife Stadium. After the Chiefs (3-1) regained the lead on Harrison Butker’s 26-yard field goal with 10:51 remaing, Zach Wilson made his first big mistake when he lost a snap. Tershawn Wharton recovered the loose ball and Mahomes and the Chiefs got it at the Jets 47.An interception of Mahomes on third-and-20 was negated by a holding call on Sauce Gardner. Replays showed it was a questionable call and an irate Jets coach Robert Saleh stormed down the sideline to shout at an official.Mahomes, who had a 24-yard run on third-and-22 to extend the drive, ran for 11 yards on another third do...
